This week’s theme is probably my favourite theme yet, Science Fiction and Fantasy is the genre I delve into most so for once there were so many choices for me! I was busy narrowing down options rather than rattling my brain to think of some.
This week’s Top 5 Wednesday is in collaboration with the BookTubeSFF Awards. And, as always, Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group now run by Samantha at Thoughts On Tomes. Where you are given a topic to post about every Wednesday; simple. You can find the link to the Goodreads group here.
So, let’s get down to business!
O N E – Harry Potter series
In the immortal words of Severus Snape; “obviously.” This was always going to be my number one pick. The book that introduced me back into reading and into fantasy – which began my love affair with the genre.
If I were to pick only one it would have to be Goblet of Fire.
T W O – Throne of Glass series
Despite the divisive nature of these books, although Harry Potter introduced me to the fantasy genre, it was this series that reignited that love. It has kept me gripped the whole way through and I cannot wait for the next instalment.
My favourite of the current books being the first – as a first book in the series it was the perfect starting off point.
T H R E E – The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet
Now, although I’ve yet to read this books follow-up, this book breezes onto this list all by itself. Easily one of my favourite 2016 reads, this book created a new found love for Sci-Fi in me.
F O U R – Six of Crows duology
E-X-C-E-P-T-I-O-N-A-L! This book has everything in my opinion. Amazing characters, an intelligent and exciting plot, and, superb and gripping writing. I just adore it on so many levels.
F I V E – Nevernight
A wonderful surprise for me last year, and another of my top 5 reads. Nevernight was poetic, violent, intelligent and incredibly interesting. One that I can and will read over and over again. The best first novel to a series I’ve read in years!
