T5W #9: favourite angsty romances

As I did with last week’s topic, I am using the important term in a loose fashion. This week is all about angsty romance.
ANGSTY – describes a situation or literary piece which contains dark, depressing, angry, and/or brooding emotions from the participating characters.

This week’s Top 5 Wednesday is in collaboration with the BookTubeSFF Awards. And, as always, Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group now run by Samantha at Thoughts On Tomes. Where you are given a topic to post about every Wednesday; simple. You can find the link to the Goodreads group here.

Let’s go!!

O N E – Kaz and Inej – Six of Crows duology

This one tops the list because they are one of my all time favourites, both together and apart. Also, because the angst in this relationship is not just a plot device(!!) It all stems from past experiences and current fears. They both have dark, haunting pasts, but together, together they make my heart soar.

T W O – Gambit and Rogue – X-Men universe

Although they both have various romances throughout the various iterations and universes of the X-Men, I always have, and always will, love them best when they’re together. They’re so caring and tender towards each other, even though Rogue can’t control her power a lot of the time.

T H R E E – Peyton Sawyer and Lucas Scott – One Tree Hill

There were books made of this show so this pairing totally counts! I will be in love with their love forever. It was full of all the angst, of course it was, they were on a CW teen drama, OF COURSE THERE WAS ANGST. Leyton 4eva.

F O U R – Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy – Pride and Prejudice

The original angsty couple – AMIRITE?!

F I V E – Jace and Clary – The Mortal Instruments

I actually really liked these two together despite the angst (and that potential incest thing heyoo!). Although not quite on the same levels in my adoration as the other four, I still enjoy reading them and still really, really need to read the rest of the books in this universe.

What are your favourite angsty couples?
